"I you see me near a guillotine at any time tomorrow you'll know I wasn't," he joked morbidly. You see, there's another thing they got wrong. A stake through the heart does nothing but hurt really bad. The only ways to kill a vampire are decapitation and cremation.

He was silent for a few ticks of the clock. "Yes," he said, "but..." He didn't finish his thought. "Yes, tonight I will."

He sat on the window sill that was near her bed, the moonlight making a silhouette of him. he hummed a simple tune he'd learned in his human childhood. This ancient tune came from this ancient creature like a music box. Perfect in all aspects of music.

When the song ended and he heard her slowed breathing he stood. He went over and looked down at her, making sure she was asleep. He placed a kiss on her forehead. Then another light one on her lips and departed just before a maid came in and closed the window.
The next day, the morning came with Mathorin down the hall being scolded by his father for being out all night. In the guest room, Mathorin stood taking the lecture passively, giving no sign that he cared.

"Alright, old man, I get it!" Mathorin said insolently. He disliked having as much freedom as a caged bird.

Lately Mathorin had gotten to know a man who didn't give his name, but said that he served god. Mathorin was good with that. Little did he know that this nameless man was the one after Artemis. Currently, though, Mathorin wandered the dark forest outside Joanna's house.

Artemis was practically flying in his run, but he still had the feeling that he was being followed. He did not breath, he didn't need to, and he thanked that as he silently ran through the forest trying to lose whatever was following him. He had to stop when he saw Mathorin wandering around. That boy was a problem, but Artemis didn't stop to deal with him. He turned and ran again. Then what hindered him was Joanna sitting on the bank of a pond. He didn't want to go out for her, because he knew there was something dangerous after him. Then he realized that Mathorin had been wandering towards her. He laughed almost silently at the idea of strange fate.

An impact in Artemis' back sent him across the clearing, straight over the pool almost at the speed of sound.
Just a few moments after that, Mathorin walked by and stopped to stare at the silly girl alone in the forest.
((See if you can ignore that.))

"I'm standing," he said seriously, no sarcasm whatsoever, "You know it isn't safe to be alone in the woods...Am I losing my mind or did a bird just crash over there?" He pointed to where Artemis had fallen in the brush.
