"All right," he said, "you continue to think on the spot and I'll continue to figure away out of this mess that YOU got us in." He fized his hair with a wry smile. It's not like he would do anything to stop Will's teasing. there wasn't much he could do.

Jacob paused, then followed. Maybe he could spare a bit of time to have a drink or two...or just get outrageously drunk like he sometimes does, but then, who would make sure Will doesn't run off with some one else's wife? He noticed that the carriage and the officer that drove it were still there. Probably, they were just waiting for Will and him to screw up this entire search.

Jake entered the tavern but did not sit down. He took out his book and leaned against the wall near the door. He took out a pen and began to scribble down these so strange events.
At the back of the tavern, near the table where Will had sat, a young woman had seemed to appear out of nowhere. She looked around with reddish-brown eyes at the two newcomers and wondered if they had money. She smiled and approached the table where Will was sitting as she ran a hand through her red hair. "Mind if I join you?" she said with a thick German accent. She sat down in an empty seat adjacent to him without waiting for a reply.

She giggled a little at his stumbling on words. "Of the Brothers Grimm?" she asked, "You're quite famous." She leaned back in her chair and stretched her legs under the table as if she hadn't slept in a while. She accidently bumped his leg. "Sorry, my name is Sofie."

"Then I'll have no one to talk to," she pouted as she stood, avoiding beer that was running across the table, "Maybe I could talk to your brother, do you know where he is?"

"Good bye, Will," Sofie called as he left. She spoke as if she were parting with an old friend she expected to meet with again. Then she left the tavern, not bothering to look for Jacob Grimm.
Speaking of Jake, he was already in the room they were to occupy by the time Will had finished making a fool of himself. He'd seen enough to be amused and put in good humor for the night.

he closed the door and leaned against it as if something was trying to run the door down. "what the hell is wrong with me??"she said aloud, more to himself than to his brother. sure hes been with many girls, had a few tumbles but none ever made him look like an ass.

"Of course," Jake said. He laid out his blanket--a quilt his mother had made him when he was six. It was still warm and loved. "I think we should go into the forest tomorrow, being that that's where all the children disappeared to. But I'd rather like to have a guide. You can help me find said person, right?"

"Sirens, dear brother," he said. He laid down and put his hands behind his head. "Sirens are scaley and fish-like and have a large tail-fin that takes up much of their lower body. They dwell on small islands in open sea to sing to sailors and lead them to their deaths. They're also called mermaids." He wondered if he overdid the definition just a bit. "A siren's voice is said to make even the strongest man unsteady," he added, "and spill his beer, perhaps?"
